Stephen Frempong, a teacher from Sokode-Etoe in the Ho Municipality, is demanding compensation for alleged human rights abuses, torture, and inhumane treatment during his time in police and prison custody. Frempong claims he was wrongfully arrested in 2005 at age 23 on robbery allegations, which he denies, stating the money in question was his. He alleges he was attacked by individuals who attempted to steal his money, and later, during police interrogation, he suffered severe torture. Frempong was subsequently remanded in prison for four years before being granted bail in 2009. He recounts that a confession from another inmate, who allegedly conspired with a driver to rob him, eventually led to a review of his case. With legal and prison authority support, he was granted bail. Frempong is now seeking compensation for his ordeal and the return of seized personal belongings, according to the Ghana News Agency.
