According to MyJoy News, the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in the Ashanti Region has shut down an alcoholic beverage manufacturing facility located at Senfi in the Bekwai Municipality. The facility was allegedly operating without authorization in an unhygienic environment. During the operation, the FDA seized 1,500 bottles of ARCAN Bitters, 5,000 empty labeled bottles, and various manufacturing barrels. Ashanti Regional Director of the FDA, Dr. Ashraf Haruna, stated that investigations indicated the bitters contained high levels of medication used to treat erectile dysfunction. The Authority had previously issued warnings to the manufacturers regarding these substances, which were allegedly ignored. The director of the facility has been invited to assist with investigations but has not yet reported to the Authority. The FDA has advised the public to avoid purchasing or consuming ARCAN Bitters, noting that the seized items are scheduled for destruction to prevent them from reaching the market.
