The Chief Justice has designated the Achimota Court to specifically handle cases related to the diversion of petroleum products. This initiative, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, aims to enhance the prosecution of individuals involved in such offences within Ghana's downstream petroleum sector. Mr. Tamakloe stated that the NPA had previously engaged the Chief Justice to establish a specialized court for these matters. The NPA Act, Legislative Instrument 2251 (L.I. 2251), outlines penalties for petroleum diversion, including fines ranging from 2,500 to 5,000 penalty units, imprisonment for two to five years, or both. The designation of the Achimota Court is expected to provide a focused venue for these cases and bolster the enforcement of relevant regulations.
