The Accra High Court has set 4 November 2026 to deliver its ruling on a bail application by former New Patriotic Party Ashanti Regional Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, MyJoyOnline reports.

The application seeks his release from custody pending an appeal against his conviction and 20-year prison sentence for illegal mining-related offences linked to a concession at Samreboi in the Western Region, according to MyJoyOnline.

MyJoyOnline says the application was initially due to be heard on 19 August 2026 but was adjourned after Mr Boasiako and his lead counsel, Samuel Atta Akyea, failed to appear. The matter was later fixed for 15 October 2026.

The Attorney-General has opposed the bail application, arguing that Mr Boasiako poses a flight risk, MyJoyOnline reports.

Kessben Online also reported that the bail hearing was adjourned to 4 November 2026 and that Mr Boasiako remains in custody.
