The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has destroyed 28 chanfang machines, 19 water pumps, and five makeshift structures in an operation near the Ankobra River in the Nzema East Municipality, Western Region.
According to MyJoyOnline, the operation, part of Operation WATER SHIELD, also resulted in the seizure of a truckload of brand-new equipment. The task force encountered a Hyundai truck offloading 22 brand-new chanfang machines, which were seized along with an adjoining store stocked with equipment and spare parts linked to illegal mining.
NAIMOS has secured the premises for investigation. The Secretariat aims to extend enforcement to manufacturers, suppliers, and transporters of equipment used for illegal mining.
