The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has arrested six suspected illegal miners at Wakawaka in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.

According to Citi Newsroom, the follow-up operation was carried out with the Northern Command of the Ghana Armed Forces from 26 to 28 October 2026.

NAIMOS said in a statement on 28 October that intelligence showed miners had returned to previously cleared sites and rebuilt infrastructure.

The task force seized a generator, an air compressor, water hoses, a saw machine, hammers, rubber mats, a solar panel and other equipment. Personnel destroyed seven air compressors and 58 makeshift structures.

The operation follows a joint enforcement exercise at Wakawaka in July 2026.

NAIMOS urged residents to report the return of illegal miners and the movement of heavy equipment. The six suspects have not been charged in court, according to the report.
