The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) has begun community engagements in areas affected by illegal mining.
According to 3News, NAIMOS said in a statement issued on 29 October 2026 and signed by its spokesperson, Paa Kwesi Schandorf, that the engagements would bring together traditional authorities, local government officials, opinion leaders and other stakeholders.
The Secretariat said the initiative aims to build public confidence, address community concerns and improve intelligence sharing in the fight against galamsey.
It stressed that the engagements would not replace enforcement operations but would complement them.
The engagements are being led by the NAIMOS Director of Operations, Colonel K. S. Appiah, according to 3News and Adom Online.
NAIMOS said the programme forms part of the approach adopted by the sector minister, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah. The statement did not name the communities involved.
