Ten suspected illegal sand winners, including Chinese nationals, have been arrested at Battor in the North Tongu District of the Volta Region.

According to Adom Online, the suspects were allegedly operating without the required permits.

The arrests were carried out by the Greater Accra Eastern Sand and Stone Miners Association working with liaison officers from the Minerals Commission and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

The team seized equipment believed to have been used in the activity, including changfan machines and tipper trucks, the Association said.

The operation forms part of efforts by the Association and its partner agencies to clamp down on illegal sand winning and make operators comply with regulations.

The suspects have not been named, and it was not reported whether any have been charged. They remain presumed innocent.
