United States authorities have filed a complaint seeking to revoke the citizenship of a Ghanaian national over allegations that he provided false information during his naturalisation process in 2013.

According to Chale News, which cited Yen Ghana, US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Department of Justice are pursuing civil denaturalisation proceedings against Francis Darko Asamoah, 56, in the Eastern District of Virginia.

The complaint alleges that Asamoah concealed information about a child during his citizenship interview, preventing officials from fully assessing his marriage-based immigration application.

Authorities claim that a birth certificate from 2011 contradicts information he allegedly gave during the interview.

Asamoah obtained permanent residency through marriage to an American citizen before becoming a US citizen in 2013.

The allegations have not been determined by a court. The report does not confirm criminal charges, a hearing date or any judgment revoking his citizenship.

His citizenship remains the subject of a legal challenge rather than a completed revocation.
