Eight Nigerian nationals suspected of involvement in an alleged cyber fraud operation have been remanded into custody following an intelligence-led police raid at Kotokrom, in the Sunyani East Municipality of the Bono Region, GhanaWeb, Republic Online and Ghana Guardian report.
Officers from the Bono Regional Police Command raided a self-contained residential property which investigators suspect the suspects were using as an operational base.
During a search of the premises, police retrieved 19 mobile phones, tablets, laptops, internet receivers and a high-speed router, equipment that is suspected to have been used in connection with the alleged online activities.
The operation followed intelligence gathered by local security agencies, which led officers to the property and disrupted what investigators believe was a structured cyber fraud operation in the area.
Residents have urged property owners and landlords to conduct thorough background checks and verify the identities of prospective tenants before renting out their properties. Some have also called on the authorities to ensure the suspects are prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Police say investigations are ongoing, with forensic analysis being conducted on the devices seized from the premises. The reports did not state the specific charges, the court that ordered the remand, or the date of the next hearing.
