COP Lydia Donkor, Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, has warned that counterfeit medicines, electrical products and cosmetics pose serious risks to public safety.

She said fake medicines could endanger lives, substandard electrical products could cause fires and injuries, and unsafe cosmetics could expose users to harmful substances.

Her statement on Wednesday, 4 November 2026, followed a meeting at CID Headquarters in Accra with representatives of Apple Inc., Unilever and J.O Global.

COP Donkor described intellectual property crime as part of transnational organised crime, involving networks engaged in fraud, illegal trade and smuggling across borders.

The CID is working with regulators, other law enforcement agencies, rights holders and international partners to disrupt illegal distribution networks.
