According to MyJoy News, the Chief Justice has approved a request to move the Bunkpurugu chieftaincy dispute case from the High Court in Nalerigu to Tamale. One of the defendants, Elijah Saan, stated that the move was requested due to fears for their safety, citing intelligence that suggested they could be killed if they attended proceedings in Nalerigu. The Registrar of the Nalerigu High Court confirmed the transfer. The legal matter follows the disputed enskinment of Melchizedek Musah Jamung on September 14, 2026. This event reportedly led to violence resulting in one death and four injuries. Police are currently searching for the rival chief and members of the Jamong royal family. Additionally, the Overlord of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohagu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, has filed a contempt application against four individuals, alleging they defied judicial processes regarding the skin. The ongoing dispute between the Jamong and Jafouk families has caused persistent tensions, including reports of arson and property destruction.
