According to Modern Ghana, the Ogun State Police Command in Nigeria rescued eleven Ghanaians who were allegedly held hostage in Sagamu. The group, consisting of seven males and four females, had reportedly paid 40,000 Ghana cedis each to a fellow Ghanaian who claimed he could facilitate their travel to Canada and Spain. Operatives from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command conducted the rescue operation on October 19, 2026, after receiving intelligence regarding the situation. Preliminary investigations suggest the victims were lured to Nigeria under the guise of visa processing before being detained. The police stated that the rescued individuals are currently receiving care and support. Authorities are continuing investigations to identify and apprehend other individuals suspected of involvement in the alleged network. The Ogun State Police Command has advised the public to verify travel and visa arrangements thoroughly before making payments to avoid exploitation.
