Deputy Education Minister Dr. Clement Apaak has warned education directors against concealing cases of sexual abuse involving teachers and headteachers. According to Dr. Apaak, officials who conceal such cases will be held accountable.
He made this statement at the 33rd Conference of Directors of Education in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region. Dr. Apaak emphasized that reports of sexual abuse must not be handled quietly to protect the reputation of a school or the accused person.
He stressed that every allegation of sexual abuse must be reported promptly and accused persons removed from contact with students while investigations proceed. Dr. Apaak added that protecting learners must take precedence over protecting adults accused of betraying that responsibility.
