A Ghanaian lawmaker has asked the government to urgently financially support the Ghana Cocoa Board, known as COCOBOD. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said the cocoa business in Ghana is in trouble. He explained that this is because COCOBOD has not paid its debts.

Reports state that COCOBOD owes Licensed Buying Companies around GH¢10 billion. This debt has been building since November 2025. This situation is affecting the entire cocoa value chain in the country.

The lawmaker warned that if the government does not act quickly, the cocoa industry could stop functioning. He stressed the importance of cocoa to Ghana's economy. The bailout is needed for COCOBOD to meet its financial duties.

Currently, cocoa farmers and companies are struggling due to the unpaid funds. This financial strain could lead to deeper problems for Ghana's agricultural sector. There has been no official statement from COCOBOD or the government on this matter.

Observers believe a quick resolution is key to preventing further harm to the cocoa industry. The long-term effects of this debt crisis could be severe. It could impact many people who depend on cocoa for their livelihoods.
