Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, declared he will not compromise in prosecuting drug suspects, even when faced with political pressure. According to MyJoy News, Muntaka stated that his ministry, in collaboration with security agencies, will pursue suspects, including alleged kingpins, and ensure they face legal proceedings. Speaking on Joy FM, he appealed to the political class to support the fight against illicit drugs instead of intervening on behalf of suspects. Muntaka emphasized that political influence would not affect how suspects are handled, and evidence gathered would be tested in court. He asserted that crime is crime, regardless of who is involved, and that his ministry will not compromise on pursuing cases. The Minister reiterated the government's priority to dismantle illicit drug operations and identify those directing the trade, stating their focus is to uproot the trade and apprehend the kingpins. He maintained that suspects would be processed through the legal system irrespective of their status or attempts by influential individuals to secure their release outside the established process.
