The General Officer Commanding the Ghana Armed Forces' Northern Command, Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, has warned that soldiers who extort money from civilians, abuse drugs or misuse military uniforms on social media risk dismissal.

According to Citi Newsroom, he gave the warning on 28 October 2026 at the 10 Mechanised Battalion Barracks during the launch of a memoir by the battalion's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel James Bampoe Palmer.

Brigadier General Agbebo said the command would take disciplinary action against personnel whose conduct undermines military professionalism, including those posting inappropriate videos on TikTok in uniform. "We are going to try some soldiers and punish them," he said.

He condemned the involvement of soldiers in land disputes, debt recovery and other private matters, especially where they use their military position to intimidate civilians, and urged personnel with grievances to go to the police and other civil authorities.

He also warned that soldiers who unlawfully obtain money from civilians by exploiting their military status would face serious consequences, and raised concerns about drug and substance abuse among personnel who handle weapons.

The GOC did not name any soldiers or give details of specific cases, and no proceedings had been reported at the time of publication.
