The government has pledged to prosecute people who attack journalists in the line of duty, regardless of their political affiliation, position or uniform.

The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, gave the assurance on 2 November 2026 at a public forum in Accra on ending impunity for crimes against journalists.

The forum, organised by the Media Foundation for West Africa, also saw the launch of a Model Safety of Journalists Policy to guide newsrooms in assessing risks and protecting their staff.

Mr George acknowledged reports of assaults, threats and obstruction involving journalists and said investigations must lead to justice and sanctions against offenders.

He proposed a review involving the police, security agencies, the National Media Commission, the Ghana Journalists Association, the Media Foundation for West Africa and civil society to monitor attacks and track investigations.

He did not name any pending case or suspect.
