The prosecution has closed its case in the ongoing illegal mining trial involving Akonta Mining Company Limited and two other accused persons at the Accra Criminal Court.

According to Rainbow Radio, Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai confirmed that state prosecutors had completed their presentation after calling three witnesses, including two former company employees and a police detective.

The former employees testified about alleged illegal mining activities within the Tano-Nimire Forest Reserve. The detective presented drone footage, audiovisual material and official communications as part of the prosecution's evidence.

The accused persons deny wrongdoing. Defence lawyers have challenged aspects of the prosecution's evidence and requested permission to recall the first witness for further questioning.

The court directed the defence to file a formal application by 30 October 2026 and adjourned proceedings to 4 November.

Chale News separately reported that Detective Chief Inspector Akpo Glover defended his investigative methods under cross-examination, saying his findings drew on witness interviews, site visits, surveillance and documents.
