The Ghana Police Service has begun investigations into a reported robbery that occurred on Monday at Nyerezhee, a community located along the Nyankpala Road in Tamale in the Northern Region.

According to accounts given by shop attendants, a man wearing a white helmet commonly referred to as a “Zaba” helmet and a face mask entered the shop and claimed he was a rice and cooking oil seller operating from a nearby location. He told attendants that his stock had run out and that he urgently needed supplies because a customer was waiting.

Based on this representation, the attendants released three bags of rice and three gallons of cooking oil to the man, who loaded the items onto his motorbike. When asked to pay, the suspect reportedly claimed that his money was under the seat of the motorbike, which he could not access after loading the goods.

He then asked for permission to deliver the items to a nearby shop he pointed out, assuring the attendants that he would return shortly with the money. The attendants agreed, but after waiting for some time without his return, they went to the shop he had mentioned.

At the location, the shop owner reportedly told them that he did not know the man and had not sent anyone to purchase goods on his behalf. It was at that point that the attendants realised they had likely been deceived.

The incident was subsequently reported, and efforts are underway to identify and locate the suspect. Video footage from the area is said to be available, though the images are not clear. However, persons familiar with the suspect’s voice or physical appearance are being encouraged to assist with information that could aid investigations.
