Parliament’s Minority Caucus has called for swift action against individuals who unlawfully closed the National Health Insurance Authority office in Ejisu, Ashanti Region. The caucus described the act as an attack on public service facilities.
Dr. Nana Ayew Afriyie, Ranking Member on Parliament’s Health Committee, addressed the press regarding the incident. He stated that the protest and subsequent closure were unacceptable and disruptive.
The youth involved in the protest have been identified as belonging to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Their actions have drawn criticism from the Minority side of Parliament.
The Minority Caucus emphasized that such protests do not contribute positively to public discourse or problem-solving. They urged an end to what they termed as 'nonsense protests'.
Authorities have been called upon to identify and arrest those responsible for the closure. The Caucus stressed the importance of respecting public institutions and maintaining order.
The incident raises concerns about political vigilantism and its impact on essential services. The Minority’s statement highlights a call for accountability.
The National Health Insurance Authority provides vital health services to citizens. Its operations should not be disrupted by such actions, according to the Minority.
Further investigation is expected to determine the full extent of the disruption and who specifically orchestrated the closure of the office.
