The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has confirmed that pension benefits cannot be given to boyfriends or girlfriends. This rule applies to all members of the SSNIT scheme.
Mr Frank Molbila, the General Manager for Benefits at SSNIT, explained this policy. He stated that only close family members can be listed as beneficiaries.
These eligible beneficiaries are limited to blood relations. Examples include parents, children, and siblings.
The Trust has this rule to ensure pension funds are distributed according to regulations. It is meant to protect the pension funds and beneficiaries.
SSNIT members should review their beneficiary nominations. They need to ensure they are compliant with the Trust's rules.
