The Social Security National Insurance Trust SSNIT has clarified who can be named as a beneficiary for pensions. Only blood relatives of a member can be registered. Mr Frank Molbila, General Manager in charge of Benefits, explained this.

This means that employees or members of the SSNIT scheme cannot nominate their partners or boyfriends or girlfriends. The Trust is ensuring that pension funds are distributed according to established family lines.

The rule is in place to maintain the integrity and purpose of the pension scheme. It aims to provide for the immediate family of a member in case of their passing.

This clarification comes to prevent common law partners or individuals not related by blood from claiming pension benefits. SSNIT aims to secure the financial future of members' families.
