The Ghana Shippers Authority has started looking into claims about new fees added by shipping companies. Some importers say they are being charged an extra 1000 US dollars.
This extra charge is called an Emergency Conflict Surcharge. It is reportedly linked to recent tensions in the Middle East.
However, importers argue that their cargo was shipped weeks before the conflict became serious.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Authority, Ransford Gyampo, shared this information. He made a statement on Facebook.
The authority aims to protect importers from unfair charges.
Shipping costs can affect the prices of goods in Ghana.
Investigations will determine if these surcharges are justified and lawful.
