Political parties must stop protecting members who are being investigated for crimes. This is the view of political scientist Dr. Abdul Jalilu Ateku.
Dr. Ateku said that when individuals face criminal charges, their parties should not shield them. He spoke on the Asaase Breakfast Show on Friday, August 7.
He added that parties often claim that any prosecution of their members is just political persecution. Dr. Ateku believes this is the wrong approach.
The University of Ghana lecturer stressed that accountability should apply to everyone in public office. He feels that political parties should allow the legal process to take its course.
This call comes as a reminder that public officials are not above the law. It highlights the importance of transparency and justice in Ghana.
