The Vice Chairperson of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee, Davis Ansah Opoku, stated that arrests are not necessary at this time concerning the COVID-19 fumigation audit.
Opoku, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso, said the Audit Service should first explain the reasons for omitting certain expenditures from its report.
He specifically mentioned the Ministries of Local Government and Decentralisation and Health, whose expenditures were reportedly left out of the Auditor-General's special audit.
Opoku stressed that the immediate priority is to get these explanations from the Audit Service.
He believes that pursuing arrests before understanding the omissions would be premature.
The committee is focused on ensuring transparency and accountability in public spending.
Further actions will depend on the Audit Service's response and clarification.
