The Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, believes the fight against illegal mining, known as galamsey, needs a new approach. He spoke on UTV Ghana about the issue.

Mr. Acquah argued that those in the opposition are not engaging in galamsey. He stated that the focus for addressing illegal mining should be on individuals with connections to the current government.

He questioned why no high-profile individuals involved in illegal mining activities have faced prosecution. This lack of action, he suggested, hinders the effectiveness of efforts to stop galamsey.

The MP emphasized the need for stronger measures to combat the problem. He believes that accountability must start at higher levels of association with the government.

His comments highlight concerns about the enforcement of laws against illegal mining. Mr. Acquah calls for a more direct and targeted approach to tackling the issue.
