A Member of Parliament has asked for a thorough investigation into the sale of Ghana's gold. Dr. Gideon Boako, who represents Tano North, voiced his concerns in Parliament.
He stated that 18 tonnes of gold reserves were sold. Dr. Boako believes this sale might have been done for criminal reasons.
The lawmaker made these statements during the debate on the State of the Nation Address. This debate took place in Parliament on March 4.
Dr. Boako described the sale as very worrying. He feels it needs a closer look by people outside the immediate transaction process.
He is urging for an independent body to look into the matter. This is to ensure transparency and accountability. The details of the gold sale have not been fully disclosed.
