The trial of the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre Sedina Tamakloe Attionu and the former Operations Manager Daniel Axim resumed at the Financial and Economic Crimes Division of the Accra High Court. According to reports from 3News and Citi Newsroom the prosecution focused on the presentation of a forensic audit report which allegedly details financial irregularities during the tenure of the accused officials.
Prosecutors maintain that the defendants are responsible for causing financial loss to the state amounting to over 90 million Ghana Cedis according to court documents cited by GhanaWeb. The charges against the former officials include conspiracy to steal money laundering and contravention of the Public Procurement Act. Both defendants have pleaded not guilty to all charges since the commencement of the proceedings as noted in the Judicial Service records.
A witness for the prosecution provided testimony regarding the specific findings of the forensic audit conducted by the Economic and Organized Crime Office. The witness told the court that several transactions lacked proper documentation or violated internal agency protocols according to the state attorneys. The defense team has indicated its intent to cross examine the witness on the methodology and conclusions contained within the audit report as reported by the Ghana News Agency.
The presiding judge noted the importance of a swift trial while ensuring all parties have the opportunity to present their evidence. The case has been adjourned to allow for further examination of the forensic evidence. 3News reports that the state intends to call additional witnesses including investigators and administrative staff to testify on the operational processes at the agency during the period under review.
