An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Shubham Sharma, a manager, to five years in jail. He was found guilty of possessing fake currency.
The court heard that Sharma had a large amount of counterfeit money in his possession. This included fake GH¢200 notes valued at GH¢1,976,000. He also had fake US$100 notes amounting to US$191,900.
Prosecutors told the court that Sharma dishonestly took his employer’s money. He then replaced it with the forged notes he possessed.
The sentencing took place on March 27, 2026.
The court’s decision reflects the serious nature of currency fraud. Possession of such large sums of fake money indicates a deliberate act.
Sharma’s conviction serves as a warning to others who might engage in similar illegal activities.
The judiciary continues to uphold the law against financial crimes. This ensures the integrity of the nation’s currency.
