An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced Shubham Sharma to five years in prison. Sharma is a manager who was found with counterfeit money.
The court heard that Sharma had a large amount of fake local and foreign currency. This included GH¢200 notes totaling GH¢1,976,000. He also possessed US$100 notes that were not real, amounting to US$191,900.
Prosecutors told the court that Sharma dishonestly took money belonging to his employer. He then replaced the stolen money with the fake currency.
The Judicial Service confirmed the sentencing following a trial.
The location of the offense was within Accra.
The sentence was handed down on March 27, 2026.
