The Institute for Energy Security (IES) has recommended that the government consider stopping the collection of the Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy on diesel fuel.

The IES believes this action would provide a small but helpful decrease in costs for consumers.

This suggestion comes as global oil prices continue to rise.

Higher international oil prices often lead to increased fuel costs at the pump in Ghana.

The Price Stabilization and Recovery Levy is one of several taxes applied to fuel purchases.

Suspending such levies can allow the government to reduce the final price paid by consumers.

The IES issued this proposal in a formal statement.

No official response from the government has been published at this time.
