The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has asked the Ghana Shippers Authority to punish shipping companies. These companies are reportedly charging extra fees for containers.
The IEAG stated that these container administrative charges are higher than what regulations allow. They believe this practice is harming the economy.
The association issued a statement on July 28. It urged the Ghana Shippers Authority to act quickly.
IEAG described the actions of the shipping lines as economic sabotage. They want the authority to enforce the approved regulatory cap on these charges.
This situation affects businesses that import and export goods through Ghana.
