Prosecutors in Colombia have accused former foreign minister Laura Sarabia of abusing her power. The accusation involves making her former nanny take a lie detector test.

The nanny was employed to care for Sarabia's son. She was reportedly subjected to the polygraph examination after being suspected of stealing from the household.

The incident came to light in 2023. A Colombian news weekly first reported on the use of the lie detector test.

Sarabia served as foreign minister and also as chief of staff for President Gustavo Petro.

The prosecutor's office stated that Sarabia allegedly used state resources to conduct the polygraph examination.

This action is considered an abuse of power by the prosecution.

The nanny has also filed a complaint against Sarabia, alleging wrongful detention and coercion.
