The Bank of Ghana has issued a stern warning to traders and businesses across the country against the refusal to accept pesewa coins and GH¢1/GH¢2 coins as legal tender. This directive aims to ensure the smooth circulation of all denominations of Ghana's currency.
Failure to accept these coins is a criminal offense under the Currency Act, 1964 (Act 242). The central bank is emphasizing that all businesses are legally obligated to accept these coins, and non-compliance could lead to legal repercussions.
