The Africa Centre for Energy Policy has stated it had worries about Ghana's power agreement with Turkish company AKSA Enerji dating back to 2015.

ACEP said these concerns were raised long before the recent conviction of former Tema Oil Refinery Managing Director Asante Kwaku Berko in the United States.

Mr. Berko previously worked as a banker for Goldman Sachs.

The energy policy group indicated that they had always been worried about the deal.

They knew something was wrong with the agreement years ago.

Further details about the nature of the concerns were not immediately provided.

The conviction of Mr. Berko in the US involved bribery charges.

The AKSA power deal has been a subject of scrutiny.
