A civil society organisation is calling for an end to application fees for jobs with Ghana's security forces. The Center for Public Opinion and Awareness (CenPOA) stated this practice should be abolished.

CenPOA issued a press release today making this demand. The group wants the government to stop charging money for people to apply to join security agencies.

Over the years, many people have paid fees to apply for positions. These include jobs in the Ghana Police Service and other security branches.

CenPOA believes that charging these fees can create barriers for qualified citizens. It might prevent some people from even trying to join the services.

The organisation did not name specific amounts charged. However, it pointed out that these fees have been a long-standing issue.

Details on whether the government plans to review these fees were not immediately available. CenPOA hopes its call will lead to a policy change.

Removing these fees could make recruitment fairer. It would allow more Ghanaians to pursue careers in national security.
