A tragic incident unfolded in Twifo Denyase Camp, Twifo Atti-Morkwa District, Central Region, resulting in the death of 62-year-old Baby Abienor and severe injuries to her daughter, Gladys. The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at approximately 8:00 a.m., involved a cutlass and allegedly perpetrated by a 30-year-old co-tenant, Hormeku Agbemor.
According to preliminary information, Hormeku Agbemor allegedly launched an unprovoked assault on the two women. Eyewitnesses reported that the suspect suddenly became violent, inflicting multiple deep machete wounds on both victims. Baby Abienor succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
Gladys, her daughter, sustained severe injuries and was initially rushed to a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound for emergency treatment. Due to the gravity of her condition, she was subsequently referred to the St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Fosu, where she is currently receiving medical attention.
Following a report, officers from the Twifo Praso District Police Command promptly arrived at the scene to commence investigations. Police found the lifeless body of Baby Abienor lying face down in a pool of blood within a wooden structure belonging to The Apostolic Church, Ghana, where the victims and suspect were reportedly residing temporarily. Officers observed deep fresh wounds on her neck and left arm, consistent with a cutlass attack.
Further investigation led officers to a shocking discovery approximately 15 metres from the initial crime scene: the body of the alleged suspect, Hormeku Agbemor. His hands and legs were tied with rope, and bloodstains were visible on his face, leading to suspicions that he may have been lynched by residents after the attack.
Preliminary findings suggest that earlier that morning, the suspect had been exhibiting abnormal behaviour and verbally assaulting the two women. Baby Abienor reportedly sought help from a church elder regarding the situation. Upon the elder's arrival, he found Baby Abienor deceased and the suspect standing nearby with a cutlass, allegedly confessing to the killing and pleading for forgiveness.
The elder then alerted community leaders and residents. However, before they could return to the scene, the suspect was found dead a short distance away.
The police have documented the crime scene and transported the bodies of both Baby Abienor and Hormeku Agbemor to the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy, as investigations continue into both the fatal attack and the subsequent death of the alleged assailant.
