The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the fatal shooting of a small scale miner identified as thirty four year old Alhassan reported by Citi Newsroom. The incident occurred in Tarkwa within the Western Region of Ghana following a violent confrontation between rival groups on a mining concession.

According to a report from Citi Newsroom the victim was allegedly part of a group that attempted to enter a mining site occupied by another faction. This encounter led to an exchange of gunfire between the parties involved. Graphic Online reports that the Western Regional Police Command arrived at the scene to restore order and has since intensified patrols in the mining community to prevent further escalations.

Medical officials at the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital confirmed the death of the miner upon arrival according to a report from GhanaWeb. The body of the deceased has been deposited at the hospital morgue for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. Investigations are ongoing to identify the individuals responsible for discharging the firearms during the clash.

A spokesperson for the Ghana Police Service stated that no arrests have been finalized yet but several persons are being questioned in connection with the site invasion. The police have urged members of the Tarkwa community to remain calm and provide any information that could lead to the recovery of illegal weapons used in the attack.
