The Ghana Police Service has launched a formal investigation into the death of a thirty-four year old small-scale miner in Tarkwa located in the Western Region. According to a GhanaWeb report released on Monday the body was discovered at an abandoned mining site during the early hours of the morning.

Initial observations by responding officers revealed visible marks of violence on the deceased which led investigators to suspect foul play. A Joy Online report confirms that the scene was immediately cordoned off by local authorities to allow for a thorough forensic analysis and the collection of potential evidence.

Law enforcement officials have not yet released the identity of the victim pending notification of the next of kin. A Citi Newsroom report states that the body has been transported to a local morgue for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death while police continue their canvas of the surrounding area.

The Tarkwa Divisional Police Command has urged members of the public who may have information regarding the incident to come forward. There are currently no suspects in custody and the motive behind the alleged attack remains unconfirmed by official police statements at this stage of the inquiry.
