The Kasoa Divisional Police Command has apprehended six individuals suspected of operating as land guards following a violent confrontation in the Kasoa area. According to a MyJoyOnline report, the suspects were allegedly involved in a clash that resulted in serious injuries to at least two local residents who are currently receiving medical attention.
During the arrests, the Ghana Police Service reportedly recovered several offensive weapons from the scene and from the possession of the suspects. These items included machetes and locally manufactured pistols which officials believe were used during the violent encounter. A Citi Newsroom report indicates that the police intervened after receiving distress calls regarding the escalating tension between the suspected land guards and community members.
The identities of the six suspects have not yet been formally released by the Ghana Police Service pending further investigations. A GhanaWeb report states that the police are currently conducting a screening process to determine the extent of each individual involvement in the violence. The suspects face potential charges related to causing harm and the unlawful possession of firearms.
The Kasoa Divisional Police Command has reinforced security in the affected neighborhood to prevent any reprisal attacks. According to statements attributed to local police officials by the Daily Graphic, the operation is part of a broader effort to clamp down on land related crimes and the activities of unauthorized security groups in the Central Region. The police have urged the public to provide information that may lead to the arrest of other accomplices who remain at large.
