Police in the Ashanti South Region have stopped a group of armed robbers who were operating on the Obuasi-Dunkwa highway. This action followed tip-offs from the public and police work.
The police command conducted operations on March 10 and 11, 2026. These operations led to the discovery of an illegal network that was supplying weapons.
During the operations, police officers exchanged gunfire with the suspects. Two individuals identified as robbery suspects were killed in the shootout.
Authorities also managed to seize several firearms and a number of ammunition rounds. These items are believed to be linked to the criminal activities.
In addition to the fatalities and seizures, several other people were arrested. Police are continuing their investigations into their alleged involvement.
The Ghana Police Service stated that these arrests and seizures are part of ongoing efforts to maintain security and tackle violent crime in the region.
The arrests and discoveries are expected to significantly disrupt the operations of armed robbery gangs in the area.
Investigations are continuing to identify all members of the network and their sources of weapons.
