The Ghana Police Service has initiated a high priority search for a group of gunmen responsible for the death of a well known businessman in Tema Community 25 during the late hours of the weekend. Initial reports indicate that the assailants gained entry to the private residence of the victim where they allegedly opened fire before fleeing the scene.
First responders arrived at the location shortly after the incident occurred but the victim was pronounced dead on arrival at a nearby medical facility. Detectives from the Tema Regional Police Command have since cordoned off the property to conduct a forensic sweep and collect vital evidence that may lead to the identification of the perpetrators.
Officers are currently reviewing available closed circuit television footage from the neighborhood to track the escape route used by the suspects. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending formal notification of all immediate family members and associates while the body has been deposited at a morgue for autopsy.
Security officials have urged residents of Tema and surrounding areas to remain calm as patrols are increased in the vicinity. Authorities have also requested that any individuals with relevant information regarding the night of the attack should contact the nearest police station to assist in the ongoing criminal investigation.
While the specific motive behind the killing has not been officially confirmed the police are exploring several leads including the possibility of a targeted attack. No arrests have been made at this stage of the inquiry as the manhunt continues across the Greater Accra Region.
