The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched a coordinated search for several unidentified assailants linked to a weekend shooting incident in the Bantama suburb of Kumasi. According to reports from GhanaWeb and Citi Newsroom, the gunmen opened fire randomly on a crowded street on Saturday evening before fleeing the scene in a getaway vehicle.
Police officials confirmed via a regional security update that no immediate fatalities were recorded during the initial assault. However, the Daily Graphic reported that the sudden gunfire caused significant panic among residents and traders who were forced to seek cover as the attackers moved through the commercial district. Security personnel arrived shortly after the incident to secure the perimeter and collect forensic evidence.
The Ghana Police Service has deployed additional plainclothes and uniformed officers to conduct intensified patrols within the Kumasi metropolis. A statement from the regional command indicated that temporary checkpoints have been established at key exit points to track the movements of the suspects. Investigators are currently reviewing available surveillance footage from nearby business establishments to identify the vehicle used in the attack.
While the motive for the drive by shooting remains unclear, authorities have urged the public to provide any information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators. Crime scene experts have recovered several spent shell casings which are undergoing ballistic examination. The case remains under active investigation by the Ashanti Regional Criminal Investigation Department according to official police reports.
