Personnel from the Western Regional Police Command successfully intercepted a suspected kidnapping attempt in Takoradi on Wednesday January 24. According to a Ghana News Agency report the operation occurred during the evening hours when officers targeted a specific vehicle based on intelligence. The Ghana Police Service has taken two male suspects into custody to assist with ongoing investigations into the incident.
A report from Graphic Online indicates that the victim was rescued unharmed during the police intervention and has since been reunited with family members. The suspects are currently being held at the Regional Police Headquarters for interrogation. Investigators aim to determine the motive behind the abduction and verify if the suspects are linked to other unresolved cases in the region.
The Western Regional Police Command stated that the rapid response of the patrol team prevented the suspects from escaping the metropolitan area. While the identities of the suspects have not been officially released the Ghana News Agency notes that they are cooperating with detectives. Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movements within their communities.
As of Thursday morning the regional authorities have not filed formal charges in court but the Ghana Police Service confirmed that the legal process will commence once preliminary inquiries are completed. This arrest follows a series of security operations aimed at reducing violent crime in the Western Region. Further updates are expected once the police conclude their forensic examination of the vehicle used in the alleged crime.
