The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a man identified as Coffie Agyemang over allegations that he attempted to sell his three-year-old son.

The arrest followed information received by police indicating that the suspect, a resident of Kwamang, had discussed plans to sell the child to an associate. The matter gained public attention after a video circulated on social media platform X on January 13, 2026, detailing the alleged attempt.

According to preliminary reports, the suspect allegedly demanded GH¢1 million in exchange for the child. The reports suggested that he cited financial hardship as the reason for seeking to dispose of his son. Police have stressed that these claims remain allegations and are subject to investigation.

Law enforcement sources say officers were alerted to the plan and mounted an intelligence-led operation. As part of the operation, police reportedly posed as prospective buyers to verify the information and prevent harm to the child. This led to the arrest of the suspect.

The child involved has been secured and is said to be safe, though police have not disclosed details about his current care arrangements. Authorities say welfare agencies are expected to be involved as investigations continue.

Police have not yet announced formal charges, and the suspect has not been arraigned in court as of the time of reporting. He remains in custody assisting with investigations.
