A National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) official was allegedly attacked by motorcycle taxi riders over the weekend. Moses Ahiakpornu, who heads NADMO’s Engineering and Mechanicals department, was attending his late father’s funeral.
The incident happened on Saturday at Kpedome near Xevi in the Akatsi North District. Mr. Ahiakpornu had reportedly gone out to buy medicine for his sick son. He was accosted by the group of Okada riders.
Some of the riders allegedly assaulted Mr. Ahiakpornu and his wife and children. The NADMO official sustained injuries requiring hospitalization. The extent of injuries to his family is not detailed.
The alleged attackers were described as 'Okada' riders. Okada is a term for motorcycle taxis used for public transport.
