A mother and her three children have died after falling into a pit. The incident happened at Kwansin Baako, a town near Wassa Dunkwa in the Western Region.
The abandoned pit was used for illegal mining activities. The woman was 43 years old. Her three children also lost their lives.
The Ghana Police Service has confirmed it is investigating the matter. Assistant Superintendent of Police Beatrice Turkson issued a statement on behalf of the Western Central Regional Command.
This incident highlights the dangers associated with abandoned mining pits. Many of these pits are left uncovered. They can pose a serious risk to the public.
