The Ghana Police Service has arrested Kweku Charles, 44, in connection with the death and secret burial of his wife, Esther Bolu, 80, within their marital home. The arrest follows suspicions raised by community members who had not seen Mrs. Bolu for over two weeks.
According to preliminary police information, residents grew concerned after Mr. Charles reportedly assumed leadership of the church founded and led by his wife, without providing a clear explanation for her absence. Repeated attempts by community members to inquire about Esther Bolu's whereabouts were met with vague responses, prompting them to report the matter to authorities.
Upon intervention, police entered the couple’s residence and allegedly discovered that Mrs. Bolu had been buried inside the bedroom. Her body was subsequently exhumed and transported to a police morgue for preservation and to undergo an autopsy, which will determine the cause and time of death.
Authorities have not yet disclosed whether foul play is suspected or if Mrs. Bolu died from natural causes. Investigators are focusing on understanding why the death was not reported to the police and why the burial was conducted inside the home without official notification, which is a requirement under Ghanaian law.
Kweku Charles is currently assisting the police with their investigations. As of the latest update, no formal charges have been announced. The police have indicated that further updates will be provided as inquiries progress.
