Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested Adjei Owusu Afiriyie, a 53-year-old man, in connection with the alleged sale of sobolo and alcoholic drinks purportedly laced with cannabis. The arrest follows an operation conducted at De-Vicky’s Pub, where officers reportedly uncovered substances believed to have been mixed with the weed.
According to police sources, officers acting on information raided the premises and seized several barrels of akpeteshie, bottles of Alomo Bitters and quantities of sobolo that are suspected to have been adulterated with cannabis. The seized items were taken into police custody as exhibits while laboratory tests are expected to confirm the exact nature of the suspicious substances.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene and has been assisting police with investigations. Authorities have not indicated whether any formal charges have yet been filed, but are expected to charge him once inquiries are complete.
Police say the investigation is focused on determining whether controlled substances were indeed mixed into the sobolo and alcoholic drinks, and whether the suspect or others may face prosecution under Ghana’s narcotics laws.
